  Place Points
Dallas Center-Grimes High School 1st 170
Grinnell Community High School 2nd 173
Newton High School 3rd 191

The Grinnell boys golf team finished 3 strokes behind host DC-G with a team score of 173. Newton shot 191.

Cole McGriff was medalist runner-up with a 40, 1 shot behind DC-G’s Derek Shanno. “Cole putted for birdie 6 of 9 holes for the second meet in a row. That’s great high school golf!,” said Coach Baker. “He had a ball out-of-bounds and a couple putts he would like back. His distance control looks real good.”

Sully Herbers shot his best HS career round with a 42. “Sully parred 3 of his first 4 holes and had all bogeys and pars. That’s a big step forward for him if that becomes the norm.”

Ty German overcame a rough start with a decent stretch of 6 holes to card a 45. Matthew Cunningham had 2 pars to start his round and 3 altogether, but had a snowman which led to a 46. Jordan Walker shot 48. Walker’s round included 3 pars, but 4 big numbers with 2 penalties. Gavin Gilman shot 54 in his first Varsity round. Gilman had 3 pars, but no bogeys.

“We had real good weather for early April. The course was soft, which made it play longer. i thought the greens were a quicker than we’ve seen so far, but we’ll adjust as courses mature. We need to get consistency in the next 10 days and then we keep work to improve our weaknesses.”

The Tigers are scheduled to play in the Dutch Masters in Pella on Friday.
