The Grinnell JV boys basketball team lost at home Tuesday to Indianola 54-47.
The Indians shot the ball well in the first half, draining 5 3ptrs.
“Our first quarter was basically an even game, except for 3 live turnovers that led to 7 easy points”, said Coach Baker. “We did a better job after that of executing some offense, got some open shots, but just didn’t make them.”
The Tigers trailed 26-9 midway thru the second quarter when Tyler Walker, Cole Johnson and Nick Brennecke all scored to close the gap to 29-17.
The third quarter saw Aaron Campbell finish some layups and convert a steal off the press to pull Grinnell within 6points at 43-37. Johnson added a 3ptr and Brady Steward finished a drive in that stretch.
“We closed to within 43-39 and were at the FT line. We missed both and the Indians converted an offensive rebound into a 3pt play. That was a key moment in the 4th quarter. Our players continue to do more things correctly, with a lot of different combinations and our effort was consistent the last 3 quarters.”
The Tigers are scheduled to play at Norwalk on Friday.
