The Tigers ended their JV season with a win and an exciting one. The Tigers came out firing moving the ball down the field and completing their opening drive with Alex Smith finding Brady Steward for a 30 yard score. After a quick stop, the Tigers offense would drive the field again and end it with a 2 yard Will Doty run. The defense would stay tough and get another quick stop. Smith would then find Steward again for a 48 yard score. The tigers would give up a costly score before half. “We executed the first half but still had two drives that would couldn’t finish. We also had a chance for a pick and didn’t go get the ball and it turned into a score for them.” CCA would come out hot the second half scoring on their first drive, however, the Tigers would answer. Smith would find Steward for a 54 yard score. CCA would however respond then take advantage of a Tiger fumble that would be returned for a score. The Tigers would respond again with a long drive ending in a Smith 3 yard run. CCA would answer and with a two point score take the lead for the first time with 3 minutes left. The Tigers offense would then put together a drive that would take all three minutes off the clock to get within scoring. A Smith run would convert a 4th down and set up a first and goal with 12 seconds left. Smith would then find Steward again for a 5 yard score and put the Tigers back on top with six seconds left. A Tiger pick would end the game and give Grinnell the victory. “We need to understand when we are up big we need to finish guys off. Coach Sauser has said it over and over and it’s something we need to come through with. In the end, a win is a win and we will learn from our mistakes. Overall, these JV guys have had a tremendous season, played very hard, and now have a huge job and that is to help prepare for the playoffs.”
