In their first action of the year, JV won Monday night at Newton 34-18. The Tigers started slow on offense turning the ball over which Newton capitalized. That would be the only time the tigers would trail. Grinnell’s offense would’ve March the length of the field and Alex smith would find Landon Kirby for the tigers first score. The tiger defense would get a quick three and out and the tigers would march back down for another score, this time via Will Doty on the ground. After another stop, the tigers offense would drive again. This time Alex smith finding the end zone on a rush. “The defense played great all night. Newton’s offense couldn’t go anywhere. “ After a newton turnover, the Tigers would score again by air with Smith connecting to Brady Steward. The Tigers last score would come on defense with a scoop and score by Landon Kirby. “We played very well for our first jv game. Guys were ready to go and turned it up a notch. Offensively we need to take care of the ball better but put drives together when needed. Our defense was tremendous. They overcame three turnovers from our offense. I actually don’t know if they score if we don’t turn it over. We played really well against their challenging offense. Overall Landon Kirby had a big game on defense, Brady Steward on the offensive side of the ball, and we won the line of scrimmage all night.”
