The Grinnell hosted Benton Community on Monday and it took a quarter to get things rolling. Benton would score first as the Tigers could not get their offense going. In the second quarter the Tiger offense put a drive together ending with an Alex Smith to Brady Steward for 15 yard touchdown. Jacob Lowe would get the momentum shift on the assuming kickoff after stripping the ball carrier and returning it for a touchdown. The Tigers defense would then really get things rolling, not surrounding another score the rest of the game. On the Tigers next possession Smith would find Rhett Nagel for a 40 yard score. Smith would then find Jaworski for the two point conversion. The Tigers would find the endzone again before half with Nagel finding Steward for a 58 yard score. The Tigers defense would start the second half with a stop and after a long drive Will Doty would dash 16 yards for a score of his own. The last score would be Cole Blackford to brother Braden Blackford who would use speed, shiftiness, and rumbling to get into the endzone for 30 yards. “We came out flat and weren’t executing to start. We straightened things out and got the momentum back. Our guys really just started having a lot of fun tonight once they got things rolling. These JV games are great because we can get a lot of guys in and get some game experience all around. We will look for these guys to keep helping out our varsity and keep getting better as we move forward.”
