The Tigers JV suffered their first loss of the season on Monday to Xavier. Xavier started off hot on offense and the Tigers helped them out a bit. The Tigers turned it over on their first two offensive possessions and Xavier capitalized. “Good teams take advantage of your mistakes and we made some big ones that they took advantage of.” The Tigers did get a spark when Alex Smith found Brady Steward on a 60 yard screen play. A couple plays later Smith would find Steward again for the score. The Tigers would get a quick stop and open things up a little bit on offense airing it out. Smith would find Rhett Nagel who would fight his way into the end zone. Xavier would capitalize off a Tiger fumble just before half and go up 28-14. To start the second half Xavier would run a dive right at a susceptible Tiger defense. “We came right out of half and had some adjustments made and talked about not beating ourselves and they score on a play where we had 10 guys on the field. It was a miscommunication in the huddle and we had a guy run off right before the play. Can’t happen.” The Tigers offense would also struggle only finding the end zone late on a Smith to Brooks Latimer score. “We have a long ways to go. Our guys need to get an instinct to be physical and finish teams off. We struggled to start off hot then whenever we got momentum we lost it. We can’t have huge errors and expect to win. We’ll learn and get better form this.”
