The 7th grade girl’s basketball season started with an exciting two games against Newton on Thursday night in Grinnell. Both teams came excited and energized for their first games of the year.
In the A game, it was a fast paced first quarter which ended with a score of 8-6 Grinnell. The Tigers then continued to put the pressure on by out scoring Newton in every quarter. The height of Stensrud, E. Smith, and Anderson was too much for the Cardinals and the outstanding guard play of T. Smith, Hart, Harms, and Imhoff was able to handle the pressure from the Cardinals. Reagan Stensrud led the team with 11 points and Sydney Anderson finished right behind her with 6 points.
In the B game Grinnell scored 14 points in a hard fought loss to Newton. Ella Smith led the way with 8 points while Corall Neighbors added 4 points and Rylie Imhoff added two. The girls played hard and did an excellent job rebounding.
Grinnell will be back in action Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Marshalltown for game two of the season!
