The Grinnell JV2 Tiger Girls basketball team proved to be a rude guest at Gilbert on Tuesday evening – racing to an early 17-3 lead and scoring at will in a 56-17 win. The game was never in doubt as Grinnell used full court pressure to go up by as much as 20 points early in the second period. A mixture of half court defenses the rest of the contest proved to be just as effective at stopping the Gilbert offense and setting up easy baskets for themselves. The lead quickly blossomed to 35 or more points after halftime. Megan Mauss used her rebounding ability to garner some easy put-backs – she led Grinnell with 20 points, 6 offensive rebounds and 2 steals. Kylie Neighbors chipped in with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Keelie Eitel also had 9 points and tallied 4 rebounds and 7 steals. Izzy Reding poured in 7 points and had 5 thefts. Mary Blanchard scored 4 points and dished out 2 assists. Payal Patel had a good overall game with 2 points, 6 rebounds and a steal. Ella McAlexander tallied 2 points and 3 steals. Beula Lee scored 2 points and had a steal; Marissa Neighbors had one point, 3 rebounds and 2 steals; and Jayden Brown grabbed 2 rebounds. The JV2 team is now 5-0 on the season.
