The Tiger JV2 Girls Basketball team overcame a somewhat lethargic 1st half and coasted to an easy 56-20 win at Newton on Friday, Jan 27. Defense was the difference between the two halves, as Grinnell struggled to stop dribble penetration or box out. As a result, the Tigers committed many fouls (disrupting the flow of the game). After some halftime adjustments, the Tigers came out with a much larger urgency and cleaned up their play. As a result, pressure defense led to easy points and much greater offensive flow. Leading the way was Megan Mauss with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks. Kylee Neighbors tallied 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocked shots. Payal Patel had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Ella McAlexander scored 5 points and collected 2 rebounds. Mary Blanchard had 5 points and 2 assists. Keelie Eitel had 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, 2 steals and blocked a shot. Beula Lee grabbed 5 rebounds and scored 2 points. Jayden Brown tallied 2 rebounds and a steal, and Marissa Neighbors grabbed 3 rebounds and blocked a shot.
