Trailing and a bit frustrated 41-31 with under 2:00 left in the 3rd quarter, the Grinnell JV boys basketball team went on a 9-1 run to close the quarter and found themselves down only 42-40.
The Tigers broke the game open from a 46-45 deficit with a 4 minute 17-4 spurt to take control.
“North Polk has us frustrated as a team in the first half. They were changing defenses and we got stuck in the lane in some tough situations,” said Coach Baker. “In the 3rd period, Dylan McIlrath kept up within striking distance nailing 3 3ptrs. Then when they focused on Dylan we started to find some holes for layups. Another was some full court pressure led by Calvin Jaworski, Sully Herbers and Cole Johnson. That got our guys going and we played well with momentum. I stuck with a group for most of the 4th quarter and they made a lot of quality plays together.”
The Tigers will host Norwalk Tuesday and travel to Pella Friday.
