Grinnell’s JV boys team earned a hard fought overtime win at Knoxville 43-37.
Trailing by 3 in the final minute Kyle Dillon made a game tying 3ptr from the right corner. Tyler Walker stole a pass with 15 seconds left. The Tigers got off a final shot but it didn’t fall, forcing overtime.
In the OT, Walker made a smooth 10′ runner, then Dillon, Trey Gohlmann, and Parker Johnson made FT’s.to build the Tiger margin.
“This was a good team effort,” said Coach Baker. “Knoxville played mostly zone. Trey Gohlmann showed some solid post up game with 3 inside baskets. We struggled for a stretch when Sully Herbers made 3 consecutive 3ptrs in the 2nd quarter. In the second half, we had a tough time keeping 2 Panther players in check, but changed that in final 3 minutes and the OT holding them to 2 points.”
“Trey Gohlmann had a huge game rebounding. Walker played solid after a tough day the day before at Pella. Andrew Cogley did a good job ballhandling and Jayden Creps was solid defensively in the final 10 minutes. We made a lot of correct plays in terms of time and score.”
The Tigers are scheduled to play again Monday in front of the Varsity at Oskaloosa.
