Grinnell JV boys team was defeated by Pella Christian 63-47 in the Kriegel gym on Tuesday.
The Tigers and Eagles went back and forth in the 1st quarter with PCh scoring the final basket for a 13-12 lead.
The second quarter saw Grinnell have 5 perimeter turnovers that lead to easy Eagle points.
Other possessions saw the Eagles get multiple attempts around the rim before finally scoring or going to the FT line.
In the 3rd quarter Grinnell got 3 defensive stops in a row and converted at the offensive end to narrow the gap. A full court press also forced a couple of quick shots.
“Speeding up the game helpd us for a bit in the 3rd quarter,” said Coach Baker. “We haven’t practiced or played with a press much this season, but we needed to increase our effort. We had a the ball twice with a chance to cut the lead to 5 or 6 but didn’t convert offensively.”
The Eagles used a size advantage to finish out the final quarter.
A positive for the Tigers were 27 FT attempts and converting 18 of them. “That’s something we’ve preached all year, rather than settling for 3ptrs. I believe we were 5=22 from long range.”
The Tigers will be home again against Indianola on Friday.
