Grinnell Tigers softball team stunned 5th ranked Oskaloosa 3-2 with 2 runs in the top of 7th inning after Osky had taken the lead in the bottom of the 6th. In the 7th inning Katelyn Van Compernolle led off the inning with a single, Meg Doty was walked for the 3rd time on the night, Kate Kriegel laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing Van Compernolle and Doty to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Red hot hitting Kiana Kies followed with the game winning 2 run single to give the Tigers the lead they wouldn’t relenquish. It was the Tigers first victory over Oskaloosa since 2011.
Offensively the Tigers were led by seniors Kiana Kies and Meg Doty. Kies went 2-4 and had all 3 Tigers RBI’s. Doty went 1-1 with a double and 3 walks, 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Also, Katelyn Van Compernolle went 1-3 with a run scored and Haidyn Hull was 1-3 with a single.
In the circle, freshman Meredith McKnight went the distance picking up her 7th win on the season. McKnights line was 7 IP, 7 hits allowed, 2 runs with only 1 being earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
The Tigers move to 3-3 in the LHC and 7-6 overall. They are back in action Wednesday at Indianola with a JV/V tilt at 5:30/7:30.
