Grinnell Tigers Varsity defeated Norwalk 3-0 on Monday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jake Hull induced a groundout from Shane Geurink to finish off the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Grinnell Tigers Varsity pitchers struck out 11, while Norwalk pitchers sat down nine.
Grinnell Tigers Varsity opened up scoring in the second inning, when an error scored one run for Grinnell Tigers Varsity.
One bright spot for Norwalk was a single by Jacob Joss in the second inning.
Jayden Gibson was the winning pitcher for Grinnell Tigers Varsity. He went six and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on six hits, striking out 11 and walking one. Hull threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Tucker Christensen took the loss for Norwalk. He surrendered three runs on four hits over four innings, striking out five and walking one.
Hull led Grinnell Tigers Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Grinnell Tigers Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Colin Gibson had the most chances in the field with 11.
Joss went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Norwalk in hits.
